  • Wendell Rodricks picks KASHISH 2013 poster contest winner KASHISH 2013 Poster Contest has a winner! India's top fashion designer Wendell Rodricks has picked the poster submitted by Mumbai-based graphic designer Prachi Patil-Kotkar as the winning design.

``The victory sign forming a star is graphic and unforgettable. It is also interesting that the clichéd rainbow flag colours have been totally ignored for an artistic backdrop. I loved it,'' said Wendell Rodricks while announcing the winner.

The contest to design the official poster for the upcoming 4th KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival saw a record number of entries from professional and amateur designers as well as design school students from across India and several other countries too.

Prachi, who graduated from Sophia Polytechnic, and works as a senior visualiser, illustrator and animator, said participating in the contest was a great experience to remember. ``Receiving this wonderful award is such an amazing honour and I would like to thank the KASHISH team for giving me such a great opportunity,'' said Prachi.

Festival director Sridhar Rangayan said: "The theme of KASHISH 2013 is reflected very aptly in the design of the poster. This year, the audience can expect a range of films that push cinematic boundaries and daringly question set notions of queer sub culture.''

KASHISH 2013, the fourth edition of the India’s biggest and only mainstream queer film festival, will be held between May 22-26, 2013 in Mumbai at a multiplex and Alliance Française de Bombay. KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is the first and only gay & lesbian film festival in India to be held in a mainstream theatre and the only queer festival to receive clearance from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

  • KASHISH SHORTS 2010 - touring package Kashish 2010 - Mumbai International Queer Film Festival 2010 turned out to be a milestone event in LGBT movement in India. It was the first ever queer film festival in India to be held in a mainstream theatre PVR Cinemas. The four days of the film festival drew an unprecedented audience turnout of over 1200 people who came to watch 110 films from 25 countries. The festival was supported by a host of Bollywood celebrities and media professionals. There was coverage in more than 200 news sites, ezines and blogs with exclusive spreads in several mainstream newspapers in India as well as leading international newspapers.

    KASHISH SHORTS 2010

One of the missions of the festival was to discover small budget independent films, short films, documentaries and student films from India with a queer focus and provide them with a platform to reach wider audiences. The festival showcased 20 Indian films, second highest from any country at the festival.

We are attempting now to take a segment of these films beyond the film festival in Mumbai. We would like to collaborate with other international film festivals to showcase these wonderful films to a global audience.

KASHISH SHORTS is a specially curated package of 8 Indian queer short films which were screened at KASHISH 2010. This package of four docu short and four fiction shorts showcase the diversity of Indian queer experience and expression in contemporary times.

We hope that these films that explore the diverse realities, deep complexities, joys and sorrows of the Indian queer experience will celebrate, reclaim, explain, and entertain audiences across the world.

For getting more information about this package, please write to: Sridhar Rangayan, Festival Director at kashishmqff@gmail.com
